International Volunteer Day and Our Youth
The latest episode of Jwandai Jazbey (Alive Spirit) discussed the important role of youth volunteerism with an emphasis on volunteer activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Volunteerism is a dire need if we want the youth to share the responsibility with the state and serve the society.
The guest in the show, Mr. Avinash Das, a United Nations volunteer, opined that volunteerism teaches us empathy. While defining the difference between volunteerism and social activism, he explained that social activism is aimed at bringing a change in the society while volunteerism is to serve people practically. Volunteerism can be done at different levels and in different scenarios such as removing trash from the streets, planting trees etc. He said that volunteerism is not dependent upon age or gender and people from all segments of the society can contribute as per their capacity.
The report by Bushra Mehsood shared that volunteerism in South Waziristan is self-reliant as the government has not made any arrangements for their support. It also shared that only the youth can bring true and sustainable change in the society.
