Growing Crime Rate among Children
The latest episode of Jwandai Jazbey (Alive Spirit) discussed the reasons for the growing rate of criminal activity among children.
The guest in the show, Mr. Ejaz Mohammad, Deputy Chief, Child Protection Centre Peshawar, said that Pakistan is among the first twenty countries to sign and ratify The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). He added that under the 1973 Constitution, the fundamental rights are ensured such as the right to heath, security, education and also supportive role of parents.
In 2010, a comprehensive Child Protection and Welfare Act was introduced by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. Mr. Ejaz emphasized that the state, community, civil society and parents all have to play their role in child protection. He shared details of different initiatives of the provincial government including an anti-begging drive and ZamungKor, a model institute for state children.
A report by Afzal Mohmand stated that according to recent reports the crime rate in children is growing. The Juvenile Justice System Act needs to be implemented effectively. One of the reasons for the growing rate is that these young children stay with adult criminals and therefore get influenced.

The primary objective of the show has been to underline the criticality of constitutionalism, fundamental rights, public accountability and the rule of law for countering extremism illegalities of all forms.
