Role of Media and Social Evolution

Post-colonial societies have faced a very quick transition from orthodox thinking to somewhat post structural inquiries. The contemporary western society on the other hand has gone through long evolutionary process and social discourse to digest issues. This rich tradition of social discourse of the west has helped in coping with issues of society in this age of information and communication; on the other hand post-colonial societies have been exposed to pluralistic ideas, without developing collision of local thoughts. Therefore, role of media is not limited to providing information but also help individuals to build the skills of conducting a rational inquiry so as to preserve diversity but also act as a tool of problem solving and policy making. This is necessary to empower people and avoid stereotyping.
